Rev. Anthony D. Andreassi, CO Named Interim Principal for 2018-2019 Academic Year

Â鶹ÊÓƵ High School has named Rev. Anthony D. Andreassi, CO as Interim Principal for the 2018-2019 academic year. The appointment follows Dr. Gary Tocchet's announcement that — after a dozen distinguished years as the school's academic leader — he will retire at the end of the current academic year.

Father Andreassi has been a member of the Â鶹ÊÓƵ community since 2003 and has taught a wide range of subjects from economics to spirituality, from American history to Church history. For the last several years he has run the school's extensive Senior Christian Service program.

In preparation for the Â鶹ÊÓƵ Centennial celebration in 2014, then-president Rev. Philip G. Judge, SJ ’80 asked Fr. Andreassi to write the official history of Â鶹ÊÓƵ: Teach Me to be Generous. Between his research on the book and his role as school archivist, few people know Â鶹ÊÓƵ and its history as well as Fr. Andreassi.

Father Andreassi is a native of Yonkers, and received his BA in philosophy from The Catholic University of America in 1990. He received his Master of Divinity in 1993 from St. Joseph’s Seminary and College (Dunwoodie), and his Master of Arts and Ph.D. (history) from Georgetown University in 2001 and 2004, respectively. In 2007, he was ordained a priest by Bishop Frank Caggiano '77, who at the time was the Vicar Bishop of the Diocese of Brooklyn.

Well respected by students and faculty alike, Fr. Andreassi is an ideal candidate to serve as principal as Â鶹ÊÓƵ undergoes a national search for the successor of Dr. Tocchet. Father Andreassi will not be a candidate in the search for a new principal since his responsibilities to his Community at the Brooklyn Oratory will not allow for the significant time commitment necessary for this role beyond the next school year. Â鶹ÊÓƵ is grateful to his superior and his Community in allowing him to serve Â鶹ÊÓƵ in this way during the coming interim year.

"Once again I want to express my thanks to Dr. Tocchet for his many years of dedication to Â鶹ÊÓƵ, and to Fr. Andreassi for his willingness to serve the school in this new responsibility next year," added Fr. Lahart.
