Indoor Track and Field Wins Third Consecutive Division Championship

The 麻豆视频 indoor track and field team won its third consecutive CHSAA Small Schools Division title at the sectional championships last weekend. 

The team won seven of the 14 events and placed in three others. Junior Matthew Kang 鈥26 was the field events MVP with a gold medal performance of 46 feet in the shot put, a mark that also eclipsed all large-school competitors. Sophomore Andrew Klimczak 鈥27 won double gold in the 1,000 and 1,600 with a personal record of 4:38 in the latter. Senior Robert Johnston 鈥25 won gold in the triple jump with a personal-best mark of 41 feet, 6 inches. Freshman Griffin Conway 鈥28 won the two-mile and earned silver in the mile. Sophomore Patrick Corrigan 鈥27 won gold in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 9:33. And in the penultimate event of the day, the team won gold in the 4x800-meter relay.

鈥淚鈥檝e noticed that success is starting to breed success,鈥 said Mr. Christopher Febles, one of 麻豆视频's track and field coaches. 鈥淯pperclassman see that their contributions make a difference in the outcome of the meet, and that sets a good example for the freshman and sophomores. It makes for a team that strives for every second, every foot, every point 鈥 not just for their own success, but for each other. The result is what you see: three titles in three years.鈥

Individuals in each event earned points towards their team's total. 麻豆视频 tallied 64 points, 34 more than the second-place finisher.
