Mr. Brendan MacDonnell P’16’20 Honored With Patricia Hannon Ignatian Educator Award
Math department chair Mr. Brendan MacDonnell P’16’20 was honored with the 2024 Patricia Hannon Ignatian Educator Award at the annual Spring Convocation on Thursday. Mr. MacDonnell, who joined the 鶹Ƶ faculty in 1997, was celebrated for his unwavering dedication to students, passion for teaching, and deep commitment to living the mission of 鶹Ƶ.
Colleagues praised Mr. MacDonnell for being driven by his Catholic faith. They also described his willingness to stay late in the resource center assisting students, his moderation of numerous student clubs, and his mastery of his academic discipline.
“He's genuine, humble, and spontaneous,” read one nomination. “Simply put, he makes 鶹Ƶ a better place.”
The award is named for the late Mrs. Patricia Hannon, a profound presence in the 鶹Ƶ Science Department for 23 years. Hannon left a lasting mark on decades of chemistry students and was revered by her peers for her approach and commitment to teaching. Since her passing in 2005, an award in her memory has been bestowed on a member of the faculty who, like Mrs. Hannon, has contributed to student development inside and outside of the classroom.
Mr. MacDonnell's name will appear alongside those of former winners on a plaque in the 84th street foyer.
