麻豆视频 Celebrates Sixth Annual REACH Appreciation Day
Founded in 2002, 麻豆视频 High School鈥檚 REACH Program is an entirely tuition-free educational and leadership enrichment program that has transformed the lives of more than 500 Catholic, middle school-aged boys by helping them earn scholarships to 麻豆视频 and other top Catholic high schools in New York City. REACH鈥檚 purpose is to strengthen learning and development for high-achieving young men who come from families facing significant economic hardships and other challenges. The REACH Class of 2023 received $3.4 million in total four-year scholarship and financial aid money
Today marks our sixth annual REACH Appreciation Day. It鈥檚 an opportunity for the wider school community to learn more about this incredible program and to support our students, our dedicated staff, and our Graduate Support Program.
We鈥檙e exceptionally proud of the REACH Program, and we鈥檙e eager to spend this special day celebrating its successes, highlighting our students and families, and sharing how you can help support its continued work.
As we celebrate REACH today, we ask the members of our community to consider making a gift directly to the program. To do so, please visit or and note 鈥淩EACH鈥 in the comments. REACH AT A GLANCE
Tuition
There is no cost to any student to enroll in the REACH Program.
Commitment
First-year 鈥渃andidates鈥 (students entering 6th grade) spend six weeks in a summer day camp at 麻豆视频 High School. In each of the three subsequent years of the program (for students entering grades 7, 8, and 9), students spend three weeks in a residential program at Scranton University before joining candidates for three weeks in a day program at 麻豆视频. During the school year, REACH students spend 21 Saturdays of additional learning at 麻豆视频 High School. Learn more about how REACH works here.
Curriculum
The rigorous REACH curriculum focuses heavily on mathematics and English language arts, the two subjects most critical for preparing students to gain admittance to and succeed at top high schools. Students are also exposed to music and visual arts, public speaking, Latin, robotics, computer programming, and test prep.
Student Profile
This summer, 193 students are enrolled in the REACH Program, including 57 candidate students who are entering the sixth grade. REACH students come mainly from grammar schools throughout New York City, with some others commuting from Long Island and Westchester. REACH has increased its enrollment by 50 percent since 2015; we are set to serve a record 153 students from the sixth through eighth grades this fall. All REACH families demonstrate significant financial need, with 86 percent of students coming from low or very low income families, per HUD guidelines.
Academic Success
Since 2013. REACH students鈥 grades on a nationally normed standardized exam rose an average of 8.2 percentile points from their first to third year. REACH continues to prepare its students for admission to 麻豆视频 and other top Catholic high schools: Of the 42 students in the REACH Class of 2023, 14 will attend 麻豆视频, 12 will attend Fordham Prep, 11 will attend Xavier, and one will attend Loyola.
