Cultural Backgrounds Celebrated On International Day
Students enjoyed an assortment of foreign cuisines to close out this year's International Day.
On Friday, March 18, students, faculty, and staff came together for 麻豆视频鈥 International Day celebration. Organized by the International Day Committee, the student-led initiative invited the school community to share in each other鈥檚 unique cultural heritages and embrace the diverse, global experiences that shape us.
International Day was originally created by the Diversity Club, who successfully hosted the event for two years before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, 23 students representing each of 麻豆视频' culture clubs helped to plan the day's events, showcasing the rich backgrounds of the 麻豆视频 student body.
Friday鈥檚 programming began with a 鈥淲ear Your Culture On Your Sleeve鈥 Grub Day, with a portion of the proceeds going to support the Voices of Children Foundation, an organization providing emergency psychological and psychosocial support to Ukrainian families caught in the current evacuation process. Later during Community Time, students were invited to join each of 麻豆视频鈥 culture clubs for a variety of fun activities and conversations. The day concluded with an after-school celebration, with students and parents contributing a wide array of international foods and music for everyone to enjoy.
鈥淥n International Day we celebrated the extraordinary diversity of the 麻豆视频 community -- students and parents brought in foods to celebrate the varied cultures represented by our student body," said International Day Committee leader George Cheung '23. 鈥淭his year's International Day took exceptional efforts on all fronts, largely because most of our organizers had only experienced the event once and had little experience to guide us. Nonetheless, with the help of Mrs. Henninger, I think the International Day planning committee produced an incredible event and I am proud to have been a part of the undertaking. "
