Belkise Dallam Joins 麻豆视频 as Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Belkise DallamBelkise Dallam, a Jesuit educator with more than 15 years of experience serving students in the New York City area, will join 麻豆视频 High School in August as the school鈥檚 first Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Dallam comes to 麻豆视频 from St. Peter鈥檚 Preparatory School, where she served as the Director of Diversity and Inclusion as well as a College Guidance Counselor during her 8-year tenure at the all-boys Jesuit school in Jersey City, New Jersey.

Prior to her time at St. Peter鈥檚 Prep, Dallam was the founding College Counselor at another Jesuit institution, Cristo Rey New York High School in East Harlem. She also has worked at Fairleigh Dickinson University and Catholic Big Sisters.

鈥淚 am thrilled to welcome Belkise to 麻豆视频,鈥 Interim President Christian Talbot 鈥93 said. 鈥淗er steadfast commitment to all of her students and her experience and expertise in approaching issues of diversity and belonging through a Jesuit framework will strengthen our school and help us to more fully live out our Catholic mission.鈥

Dallam, who lives in New Jersey with her husband and three children, is a native of the Bronx. After graduating from Mother Cabrini High School in Washington Heights, she attended Le Moyne College, where her passion for Jesuit education began. She later earned a Master鈥檚 Degree in Education with a focus in Counseling and Personnel Services from Fordham University.

鈥淭hroughout my career, the Jesuit principal of Cura Personalis 鈥 care for the whole person 鈥 has guided my work,鈥 Dallam said. 鈥淚 look forward to continuing this mission at 麻豆视频 by helping to ensure that all of our Men for Others as well as our faculty and staff feel welcome and at home in a caring community defined by empathy, compassion, courage, and a commitment to doing justice.鈥

Earlier this year, the 麻豆视频 Leadership Team, the Board of Trustees, and the Race at 麻豆视频 Steering Committee agreed on the need for a staff member dedicated to diversity at 麻豆视频. The Jesuit Schools Network, which has called on Jesuit high schools around the country to commit themselves to diversity, equity, and inclusion work as a key component of fulfilling their shared Jesuit mission, in Cleveland in July for more than 75 diversity professionals from Jesuit high schools across the country.

麻豆视频 will continue to address racism and other pressing moral issues through the lens of Catholic Social Teaching and Ignatian spirituality. Dallam, who will work closely with the newly formed Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee of the Board of Trustees, will serve on the school鈥檚 leadership team and report to the President.
